Hi, let me introduce myself. I'm Andy Kirchner, 36 when writing this. Born on Curacao in 1976, November 21st. I'm new to this, so I'll be learning along the way and tips to improve myself or my blog are welcome.

Since May 19th 2012 I'm a cripple. I got a spinal injury due to a dive accident and was paralyzed from my waist down. I'm recovering better than expected, but let's not focus on that for now. I will write about this later and tell my story of what went wrong and how I fight my way back into life.

I'm gonna try and see if I can write my point of view on life in a certain way that can interest you and even help us both. I'm not a English speaking native so bare with me grammatically.  As a kid I was raised with Dutch and Papiamentu, our local language on Curacao, Aruba and Bonaire. At school I learned English. Later I picked up some Spanish and German. My choice for English is of course because most of you can read and understand it.

Why I decided to try and write? Because of Twitter. It's all fun and games till you want to say more than 140 characters :-). That's when you have to decide to blog and see what you can do. It's not that I'm special or have important things to say, but I do believe in the power of sharing. Sharing is not only caring, it helps improving yourself and give others a view in a foreign kitchen. Also, I've been writing since a kid. Mostly in Dutch, poetry, or an attempt to, and later even short stories. Although I never published anything officially, I stood on several stages in Holland proclaiming my written words. It's was mainly my character and passion that was praised instead of my writing skills so at a certain point my inspiration kinda went dead I guess.

So now I'm trying to see the world with other eyes. A new Andy has arisen since I started the long road of recovery and lots and lots of physical therapy, manual therapy and of course psychological therapy. Suddenly you're not the old physical and mental you, you lost a dear friend and you're very uncertain on how the future is gonna be.

There is a saying that goes 'You never know what you've got till it's lost'. And it couldn't be more true but what if you never knew about other ways, how to see/do things differently? My life has been a weird, beautiful journey. A lot of disappointments  a lot of adventures, a lot of good and the bad that I want to try and remember, maybe even relive. And that's what I'm gonna try to accomplish here. It's also a reach out, a digital touch and kick under my own ass to do as I always wanted to do...
